Mat Messerschmidt

Teaching Fellow - University of Chicago

I am a recent (2022) PhD, having received my degree from the University of Chicago's interdisciplinary Committee on Social Thought, concentrating in philosophy. I am currently teaching in the University's Self, Culture, and Society sequence in the Division of the Social Sciences.

My scholarship and teaching center on Continental philosophy from Nietzsche onwards, but also explores connections with other genres and fields, such as literature, literary theory, and theology. My dissertation investigated the meaning and implications of Nietzsche's death of God (see "Research" for more details).
